Giovanni Baratta, of Casanova Italy, came to America in 1966. Living in Union City, NJ and working at a pizza shop in 1967, he met his wife Maryanne the daughter of produce store owners down the street. Ten years later, Giovanni and Maryanne moved to Ocean City, NJ where they had two children, Rose and Giovanna.

In 1985, the Baratta's opened the first and only food court in Ocean City. Today, the Promenade consists of 11 stores including burgers, gyro, pizza, mexican and much more.

Rose and Giovanna both work at the Promenade still today, and have incorporated their husbands and children in the business. Together, the entire extended Baratta family serves vacationers and locals alike on the Ocean City boardwalk for their 34th year in 2019/
